Piezzo Rhinoplasty

Ultrasonic Piezo Rhinoplasty in Turkey Istanbul

“Piezo” is a new method that is being used in rhinoplasty surgeries. It is a device that produces ultrasonic vibrations. With the help of this device the nose bones can be shaped very precisely. The patient experiences less bruising and swelling as the bones receive less trauma. I have been using Piezo exclusively in my nose surgeries.
WHAT IS A PIEZO (ULTRASONIC) RHINOPLASTY?

Ultrasonic rhinoplasty, also known as rhinosculpture or piezo rhinoplasty, is a new process that precisely reshapes the nose with new miniaturized instruments developed by Dr. Gerbault in 2013.

The Piezo Surgery Bone Cutting System converts electrical energy into ultrasound by delivering high frequency ultrasonic waves directly onto the nasal bone, allowing for true ‘sculpting’ of the nasal bones, changing their shape and thickness as needed without damaging other sensitive nasal tissues.

Ultrasonic rhinoplasty treats the bony part of the nose to correct a hump or a too wide nose, or an asymmetric nose. It also helps to correct deviated nasal septum, bone asymmetry, and allows to safely harvest different types of grafts, etc.

The softness and the precision of this technique allows it to extend the nose undermining to the whole bony vault, described by Dr. Gerbault as the full open approach. It allows an accurate bone reshaping under direct vision, and not blindly as usually performed for rhinoplasty.

Another major advantage of this technique is to avoid in many cases breaking the nasal bones: bones are just thinned and polish gradually to achieve a perfect result and very smooth feeling. In other cases, the bones can be very accurately moved, orientated and reshaped, for example to narrow the nose.

Piezo rhinoplasty deals mainly with the bony part of the nose to treat a hump, narrow a nose, treat nasal asymmetries, but also with septum issues.

WHAT IS A PIEZO (ULTRASONIC) DEVICE IN RHINOPLASTY?

Correction of the shape of the nose often requires work with bone structures. If a few years ago traditional instruments were used for this, today they are being replaced by innovative ultrasonic technologies. The piezo-device consists of a control unit, a navigation system, an ultrasonic tip and removable nozzles that allow you to perform a large number of works with pinpoint precision without damaging soft tissues.

Piezo device uses ultrasonic vibrations at a frequency of 25-29 kHz to reshape the bone, while leaving all soft tissues that are affected at frequencies above 50 kHz, such as skin, mucous membranes, vessels and nerves, completely intact.

WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES OF PIEZO ULTRASONIC RHINOPLASTY?

– the ability to work only with the bone and cartilage structures of the nose, without touching the soft tissues and capillaries;

– lack of heavy bleeding;

– eliminated the risk of unwanted fractures;

– mild edema and hematomas;

– Accurate cut of the bones during nose surgery, due to which the risk of asymmetry is significantly reduced;

– fewer scars than with classic instruments;

– faster rehabilitation after rhinoplasty.

IS PIEZO RHINOPLASTY OPEN OR CLOSED METHOD?

Another important factor to consider is that a piezo rhinoplasty needs to be performed using an open technique method and cannot be used with a closed or intranasal rhinoplasty method. This is because the instruments are not long enough and direct visualization of the bones is required for the piezo bone sculpting.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PIEZO RHINOPLASTY AND TRADITIONAL RHINOPLASTY?

The piezo device assists in constricting the bones of the nasal bridge and can selectively act on bone or hard cartilage without damaging the delicate, adjacent soft tissue. That’s why piezo ultrasonic nose operation is less traumatic, without bleeding, since when using an ultrasonic piezo knife, coagulation (gluing) of small vessels occurs and, as a result, the volume of bruises and edema decreases, and this, in turn, gives a more accurate, refined aesthetic result.
